Warehouse Design & Optimization
The data we need to build your warehouse Digital Twin and run layout, case-packing and capacity optimization. Use the templates below — and the validation tips — to prepare a clean, complete data set.
Summary of required data.
Four groups of input. Items marked Optional improve the model but are not required to start.
Warehouse layout description: structure & storage rules
Layout
Warehouse layout input information and checklist.
Storage rules
Storage rules and constraints predefined per product type / category and warehouse area.
Material / process flow & warehouse operations
Material & process flow diagram
Information about material flows and processes in the warehouse.
Operation description & times
Detailed description of operations including the specific processes in scope, warehouse-task execution rules and constraints, and the areas related to the processes in scope.
Transportation
List of transporters (MHE) used in the warehouse, with an indication of the processes where they are used.
KPIs
KPIs used for each process step in scope, plus staff figures and capacities per process.
Warehouse simulation data input
Product data
Product master data.
Order data
Order data (sales / customer orders, inbound orders, deliveries) — historical or extrapolated.
Picking order data
OptionalWarehouse tasks per process — historical data for a certain period. Used to model the Digital Twin and the AS-IS situation.
Assignment data
OptionalStock / inventory snapshot and actual product placement in the warehouse. Used to model the Digital Twin and the AS-IS situation.
Case pack data
Carton and packaging portfolio with dimensions and usage rules.
Vocabulary
Vocabulary
Names used in W2MO and in the data templates.
Data validation recommendation
- Please refer to the accompanying materials. Make sure the obligatory information is in place first, and don't hesitate to ask if anything is unclear — and let us know if some data cannot be provided.
- Download “Intralogistics_templates.zip”, then enter your data into the matching CSV file. Pay attention to the fields marked as “obligatory”.
- Master-data basic validation tips:
- Check that references are valid: products included in the order lines, internal order lines and assignment must exist in the Products file; bins included in the internal order lines and assignment must exist in the layout.
- Product volume: item volume × items per case must be ≤ case volume; case volume × cases per pallet must be ≤ pallet volume.
- The assignment / stock snapshot must fit the product-type-to-bin-type assignment rules; stored volume must be ≤ the bin's inner dimensions.
- Processing raw data in its original files and formats may take extra time — in that case please specify the headers and their description, the units of measurement, the shorthand separators, and the description and usage targets of any additional data included.
